Science and Social Studies Research
How to Take a Video of Your Social Studies Display
-
Slowly pan across the display to ensure all elements are visible.
-
Focus on specific sections of the display that illustrate key aspects of your research.
-
Narrate as you film, explaining how the display supports and reinforces the ideas in your paper.
For example:
-
If your display includes a timeline, describe its importance to your research.
-
If it includes maps, graphs, or images, explain how they provide evidence or context for your conclusions.
Science Engineering
-
How to Take a Video of Your Engineering Submission
-
To clearly demonstrate your engineering project without narration, follow these steps to ensure the video conveys all necessary information visually:
-
1. Introduction and Overview
-
Begin with a wide shot of your project setup, including all components and related documentation.
-
2. Demonstrate the Project in Action
-
Show the device performing its intended task from start to finish.
-
Use close-up shots to focus on important details, such as moving parts, circuits, or key mechanisms in operation.
-
Film at a steady pace so judges can clearly see how each component contributes to the device’s function.
-
3. Highlight Design and Construction
-
Film close-ups of individual components, such as:
-
Circuits, wiring, and connections.
-
Structural or mechanical elements.
-
Any unique features or innovations.
-
Use captions or on-screen text to label important parts and explain their roles.
How to Take a Video of Your Collection Submission
-
To showcase your collection submission effectively for the event, follow these guidelines when taking your video:
-
Start with an Overview
Begin by capturing a wide shot of your entire display. This gives viewers a sense of the scale, layout, and organization of your collection. Slowly pan across the display, ensuring all parts are visible. -
Focus on Key Items
After the overview, zoom in or move closer to highlight individual items or sections within the collection. Spend a few seconds on each item or grouping, making sure the camera is steady and focused. -
Explain the Display
Narrate the video as you film, or add audio later, describing your collection. Address: -
What your collection is and what items it includes (e.g., coins, battlefield artifacts, stamps).
-
How the items are classified and organized in the display.
-
The significance of the items and any notable details.
-
Showcase the Documentation
Include a segment showing the accompanying paper or notebook. Flip through the pages to give an overview of the documentation. Highlight key sections, such as diagrams, lists of sources, or any narratives explaining the collection's context. -
Provide Context
End the video by summarizing the story behind the collection: -
Why it is meaningful or historically significant.
-
Any unique features of your display or items.
-
Ensure Good Quality
-
Use a well-lit environment to make sure all items and text are clearly visible.
-
Avoid background noise so your narration is clear.
-
Keep the camera steady using a tripod or a stable surface if possible.
-
By following these steps, your video will effectively convey the effort and detail you’ve put into your collection submission while giving viewers a clear understanding of its importance and presentation.
